Resurrecting the Savage 300: From Rusted Relic to Tactical Workhorse

When a Savage 300 comes in looking like it’s spent a decade at the bottom of a river, most would call it a lost cause. At Raven Eight Tactical, we call it a challenge. This build was one of the most extreme rust-to-rebirth transformations we’ve taken on — and the results speak for themselves.

🔧 Full Breakdown & Inspection

The rifle was completely disassembled to inspect every inch of damage. Rust had penetrated deep into both the internals and externals — the bolt, barrel, receiver, and even the optic.

🧼 Polishing the Stainless Steel

All stainless steel components were polished by hand — removing pitting, oxidation, and grime — restoring the original structure and prepping for finish.

🪨 Sandblasting for Surface Reset

We blasted down the bolt, receiver, barrel, and all rusted components to bare metal using media suited for firearm refinishing. This was followed by degreasing and a full gas-out cycle to eliminate trapped oils or moisture.

🎨 Cerakote Refinish: Tactical Color Map

  • Barrel: Graphite Black
  • Lever: Graphite Black
  • Scope (Weaver 7-II): Fully restored and refinished in Graphite Black
  • Receiver: Springfield Grey
  • Scope Rings: Springfield Grey

🔩 Final Reassembly & Function Check

Every part was reassembled with precision. The restored Weaver scope was torqued to spec, and all functions were tested. What was once a rusted relic is now a sleek, functional, and tactical piece of art — ready for another lifetime of use.

🎯 Final Thoughts

This isn’t just about coating parts — it’s about breathing new life into tools built to last. Whether it’s for field use, collection, or legacy preservation, Raven Eight Tactical has your six.
